What is the difference between bib aprons and waist aprons?

Bib aprons generally cover the top part of the body while a waist apron starts on the waist below and only covers on the front of the legs and hance preferred by serving staff, waiters and baristas as there is not much cooking involved and the level of protection required is much less.
