Your FR pants take more punishment than anything else you wear: kneeling, climbing in and out of utes, brushing against oily plant. They still need to hold their arc rating after months of that, and stay comfortable enough to wear for a full shift in the heat. Every pant in this collection is made from flame resistant fabric, from 311gsm cotton drill cargos rated at 14 cal/cm² to lighter inherent FR ripstop pants, plus an FR waterproof overpant for the wet. Brands include DNC, JB's Wear, Hard Yakka, KingGee, Syzmik and Bisley.

Start with the arc rating your site needs

Your site's arc flash risk assessment sets the minimum arc rating, measured in cal/cm². Pick pants rated at or above it, and make sure your shirt meets it too, because your PPE is only as good as its lowest rated layer. As a rule of thumb, PPE 1 means at least 4 cal/cm² and PPE 2 means at least 8 cal/cm². You'll still see "HRC" on many labels; HRC 2 and PPE 2 mean the same thing. If your site asks for "AS/NZS 4836", that's the work-practice standard telling your employer to select arc-rated PPE from a risk assessment. Pants aren't certified to it, so what you're really matching is the cal/cm² rating.

Cotton drill or inherent FR?

The DNC Patron Saint pants use treated FR cotton drill. At 311gsm it's heavy and hard-wearing, it carries the highest listed rating in this collection at 14 cal/cm², and DNC rates it for 50+ domestic washes at 60°C. It's a good fit for workshop and plant work where toughness matters more than weight.

Inherent FR fabrics (modacrylic, aramid and LENZING FR) have flame resistance built into the fibre, so it can't wash out. They're also lighter: the JB's 6MFRP reaches 13 cal/cm² at 220gsm, and the DNC Flamearc, Syzmik Modatech and Bisley Apex 240 pants sit between 230 and 240gsm. If you're outdoors in WA or Queensland heat, that difference is noticeable by mid-afternoon. The Syzmik ZP522 also has FR mesh in the waistband to help with airflow.

Cargo, taped or plain

• Cargo pockets: the DNC 3412, 3419, 3473, 3474 and 3475, Syzmik ZP521 and ZP522, Bisley BPC8580T and BPCL8580T, KingGee Y02520 and JB's 6MFRP all have cargo pockets. The Hard Yakka Y02670 adds knee pad pockets for crews who kneel a lot.
• Reflective tape: taped pants carry FR reflective tape around the leg, either as a hoop or above the knee. The JB's 6MFRP and Bisley BP8580T use segmented biomotion tape, and the JB's is listed to AS 4602.1:2024 N-E Level 3 when worn with a Level 3 top. If you work at night, check your site's day/night rules before choosing plain pants.
• Plain front: the DNC 3411 and 3470 and Bisley BP8580 are untaped, simpler pants that suit indoor electrical and maintenance work.
• Trims: look for FR thread, FR zips and non-metal press studs. The DNC Flamearc pants list no metal components at all, which matters around live electrical work.

Do you stock FR pants for women?

Yes. Women's fits include the Hard Yakka Y02320 and Y02325 taped pants, the Syzmik ZP522 taped cargo pant, the DNC Flamearc 3475 cargo pant and the Bisley Apex 240 BPCL8580T cargo pant.

Is there an FR pant for wet weather?

Yes. The Syzmik ZP902 is a seam sealed waterproof overpant with a 5,000mm waterproof rating, a warm FR lining and FR zips at the hem so it slips on over boots. Its product page lists no arc rating, so ask us for the data sheet before relying on it for arc flash work.

What should I wear under FR pants?

Cotton or FR underwear and base layers. Polyester and nylon can melt onto skin in an arc flash or flash fire. Our fire retardant clothing page has more on care and when to replace FR garments.

Can you put our logo on FR pants?

How long do FR pants take to arrive?

We don't keep FR pants in our Perth store because of the size of the range. Most styles are ordered in on confirmation and arrive within about 5 working days, plus about 5 working days if you're adding embroidery or printing.
